This week we’re bringing you a delicious smörgåsbord featuring a playlist by Jeffy Hnilicka, articles about opera and turtle thieves, and a slightly bitter cocktail to welcome you to your weekend.

THIS WEEK’S CURATOR: Jeffy Hnilicka is the founder of Good Matches. During his career he’s booked talent as legendary as Mavis Staples and as cool as St. Vincent. We were lucky enough to have him as the ringleader for our Power of Wonder Salon. Jeffy is incredibly thoughtful and warm, and we are excited to share his musical creation with you all this week! Here’s what he says about his playlist:

DRINK: The Paper Plane

STORY: Created in 2008 by NYC bartender Sam Ross and named after the hit song by British artist M.I.A. Can be easily reduced to a smaller cocktail, and ingredients may be swapped based on what you’ve got on hand.

RECIPE:

• 1 oz bourbon (rum in a pinch)

• 1 oz Aperol

• 1 oz Amaro Nonino (Cynar or 2-3 dashes of Angostura Bitters can be substituted)

• 1 oz fresh lemon juice

For a smaller cocktail, reduce all ratios to 3/4 ounces. Campari can be substituted for Aperol if you like more bitterness.

Combine all ingredients in shaker with ice.

Shake for 15 seconds.

Strain and pour into a coupe glass. Garnish with lemon twist and enjoy!

Mocktail suggestion: Hard to substitute all ingredients. Instead, we suggest a delicious combo of bitter Italian soda Sanbitter, grapefruit juice, and ginger ale for a spritz-y type mocktail. Or, make it easy on yourself and try a raved-about Chinotto on its own.
